Why Are You Still Getting Ghosted? The Silent Mistake Costing You Interviews

Ever wonder why you got ghosted after a job interview, even though you were the perfect fit on paper? 🤔

Here’s the harsh truth: It’s not just about your resume or qualifications. The biggest reason candidates lose out—especially in virtual interviews—is their body language. Yup, how you present yourself on camera can make or break that first impression. 😬

HR managers notice everything: nervous fidgeting, lack of eye contact, or slouching. These subtle cues can signal low confidence or disengagement, even if your answers are spot-on.

But don’t worry—this is totally fixable! I’ve got some simple exercises to help you nail your virtual body language and avoid those ghosting situations.

Ready to up your game and show them the real you? Let’s go! 👇

Ground Your Hands to Calm Nerves
Ever get super fidgety and don’t know what to do with your hands? Try this: before your interview, put your hands flat on the table, press down gently, and take a deep breath. Just hold them there for a minute to ground yourself. If you feel your hands getting restless during the interview, return to this position to reset. It’s a quick way to feel centered.

Practice Hand Gestures in Front of a Mirror

We’ve all been there—either using our hands way too much or not at all. Here’s a fun exercise: stand in front of a mirror and just talk about something you know well. Watch how your hands move. If they’re too stiff or all over the place, adjust them. Do this a few minutes a day, and you’ll get a sense of how to use your hands without overthinking it. Trust me, it works!

Hold an Object to Manage Fidgeting

Okay, so if you’re not sure what to do with your hands, try holding something small, like a pen (but not to fiddle with it!). It’s a trick that helps keep your hands calm, like they have a purpose. When you don’t need to gesture, let one hand rest on the table. It’s like giving your hands a job so they’re not all over the place!

Do a Power Pose Before You Start

This is a fun one! If you’re feeling super nervous before the interview, stand up, put your hands on your hips like Wonder Woman, and hold that pose for two minutes. Or raise your arms in a big “victory” pose. It’s wild, but science says it reduces stress and boosts your confidence! Then, when you sit down, keep that tall, confident posture going.

Eye Contact Trick for Virtual Meetings

Maintaining eye contact on Zoom is tricky, right? Try this: stick a little colorful note near your camera so you remember to look at it. It helps you focus on the camera, not the screen, so you appear engaged. Practice talking to that spot as if it’s a person. I promise it helps you nail that “eye contact” thing that’s so important in virtual settings.

Breath Control for Instant Calm

And if all else fails, take a deep breath. No joke, deep breathing can help slow down that anxious heartbeat. Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold it for 4 seconds, then exhale for 4 seconds. Do this a few times before the interview—it really helps you calm down and speak more clearly.

These little exercises can make a big difference when you’re anxious about an interview. They help you take control of your body language, so instead of worrying about what to do with your hands or how you’re sitting, you can focus on what you’re saying.

Let me know if you try any of these! I’d love to hear how they work for you 😊
